SDO IS BACK–DATA RESTORED: Data from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) are available again after technicians repaired a broken fiber optic link on August 5th. The greater than 2-day outage missed the emergence of three new sunspots and the spectacular eruption of a large prominence. Retrospective movies may be possible as missing data are back-filled.

All of these sunspots have relatively stable magnetic fields that pose little threat for strong solar flares. Credit: SDO/HMI

Description: Type II emissions occur in association with eruptions on the sun and typically indicate a coronal mass ejection is associated with a flare event.
