The Hamvention will be celebrating its 70th anniversary Friday at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in Xenia.
This year’s theme is Reunion, to celebrate getting a world of hams together after missing two Hamventions and to commemorate the history of the Dayton Hamvention stretching back to 1952.
General Chairman Rick Allnutt, whose amateur radio call sign is WS8G, said the theme represents the thousands of amateur radio operators from around the globe getting together at Hamvention for a Grand Reunion.
Hamvention is also continuing an opportunity for the public to see what it is about at no cost. Free tickets will be available at the ticket booth on Sunday. The tickets are for admission only and do not include prize drawing stubs.
More than 50 forums cover topics which include youth activities, weather spotting, alternative energy sources, and satellite communication, in addition to technical topics such as software-defined radios.
In addition to exhibits featuring the latest amateur radio equipment there are also vendors selling a variety of other electronic equipment, including computers and accessories, security devices, networking supplies, tools and many other items of interest to the public. The flea market area will often offer items at a fraction of their original cost.
