The organizing committee of SMART met on Tuesday February 15th, 2022 to discuss plans for SMART 22.
The group has decided to cautiously prepare for SMART this April 30th 2022 at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Center in Springhill NS.
With COVID still dominating everything, the event may be postponed or cancelled. Hopefully by April 15th Phase 3 of provincial protocols will take place and the event will be a go.
The schedule has changed this year with 1 hour classes and 15 minutes between classes for breakdown and setup of the next class.
Lunch hour will be at 12:30pm but lunch will not be the regular barbecue. More on this at a later date but you may want to bring something with you, just in case.
We plan on having tea/coffee and munchies when first arriving in the morning.
Again with COVID still here, the committee has decided this year to KEEP IT SIMPLE
We hope to have the classes nailed down by the next committee meeting. Some of the classes on the list include
- Amateur Radio & High Altitude Balloons
- Radio Amateurs of Canada
- Packet Radio for emergency communications
- Computers & Amateur Radio
- Restoring and repairing classic radios
- Raspberry Pi
- Moon Bounce
- Winlink
- LoRa communications in amateur radio
- Logging programs
All classes subject to change
John Scott VE1JS will be here again this year and will look after Award verification and LOTW confirmation.
Both rooms will have classes again this year but instead of 12 there will only be 8. After lunch, everyone will take part in the presentation by Nova Scotia Public Safety Field Communications who will be bringing their new PSFC vehicles to the event for show throughout the day and will also give a presentation on the working of the vehicles, TMR radios and how amateur radio can connect to this system. This will be especially interesting to ham radio operators who regularly take part in Exercise Handshake.
The flea market is a go and check the box on the registration form if you will need a table.
There is a smaller third room available upstairs in case any group would like to get together for a meeting. Contact me directly if interested in this room.
All prizes, DOOR PRIZES, 50/50, GRAND PRIZES will be given out at 4:30pm.
Clubs interested in giving a door prize (gift card) please send me the information on the card, who it is from and how much it is. I will post this info on the website for all to see.
PLEASE DO NOT send me the gift card by mail.. Bring it with you to the symposium.
NOTICE: As with all other years only amateurs who registered and in attendance can win the door prizes.
Tickets will be available throughout the day for the Grand Prizes and the 50/50
The registration form is now open. Because of COVID we are very interested in seeing who is interested in attending this year.
NOTICE: Bring your mask and proof of vaccinations just in case they are still needed to enter the building.
The SMART committee will be meeting again on March 1st. I will send out more info at that time.
The committee is asking all hams to promote SMART 22 at your club meetings and on your club nets.
Again things are still up in the air with COVID but we want to try and prepare for the event.
Any questions, please send them along.
Everyone stay safe, get your shots and hopefully, fingers and toes crossed, see you at SMART 22.
